Discussion & Roundtable: The OSCE in the migration and refugee crisis

16 March 2017, 17h00-19h00
Austrian Institute for International Politics (OIIP), Berggasse 7, 1090 Wien

The migration crisis had an important impact on the European Union but has also affected the work of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and its field missions throughout the Western Balkans. How are migrations and comprehensive security challenges related with each other in the agenda of the OSCE? What role can the OSCE play in migration management in Europe and beyond? What challenges does the OSCE and Western Balkans states face in their response to the migration crisis? What is the Austrian approach in this area, considering that it assumes the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office in 2017? These questions and others will be discussed. Also, a short presentation of a study carried under the auspices of the Southeast Europe Association (SOG) in the framework of the German OSCE Chairmanship in Office 2016 will be given.
