The second Western Balkans Reflection Forum, which will take place on June 26-27, 2017 in Trieste under the title “The Western Balkans in the European Union: Perspectives of a region in Europe?”, is dedicated to the topic of regional cooperation and provides a platform for the exchange of perspectives for experts from European or national administrations and institutions, as well as for academics from think tanks or universities from the EU or the Western Balkans.
The forum aims to promote a discussion within the political community, the media and the general public on enlargement in the Western Balkans. Three topics are of particular interest: a resurgence of bilateral and regional tensions, the gap between regional cooperation on security issues and the problem of different approaches to economic development.
The event will also provide a framework for the elaboration of reflection papers which will be disseminated afterwards. A new series of outreach events will follow the event in the Western Balkans, as well as in the participating countries of the Berlin Process.
The Reflection Forum is organized by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), Rome, the Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE), Nice/Berlin/Istanbul; the Austrian-French Centre for Rapprochement in Euroa (ÖFZ), Vienna, in cooperation with several other relevant institutions and organizations. The Reflection Forum is supported by the Central European Initiative, ZEI. The main event will take place on June 27th in Trieste.
